A Sick Gastronomer Still Needs To Eat Too
What do you do when you wake up with a low grade fever and a growling stomach? When food shopping is not on the list and takeout is not an option. A gastronomer must still eat. I went to bed on Friday with a running nose and woke up on Saturday hungry and feverish. But even sick a hungry woman needs to eat too. A half a dozen eggs, homemade yogurt and shells from shrimps became the basis for quick easy, healthy food to nurse me back to health.
Opening my freezer revealed a frozen french fries but not enough for a meal and one lonely salmon fillet. Salmon cakes and aioli sated my growling stomach. Fish shells, lemons and water along with my slow cooker combined with time resulted in seafood stock. Adding a few vegetables, olive oil and parmesan reggiano keep me full. Soup to the rescue!
Yogurt cake using the remaining lemon, yogurt and vanilla beans provided a sweet treat to motivate me to get better. Being a gastronomer does not stop because cold and flu season is among us.
Healthy food is the foundation to getting healthy and remaining healthy through the winter season. On a zero money spent weekend a healthy, sustainable menu was created. Along with rest and plenty of fluids everyone knows good food is needed too when you are sick.
