I love spending time in the kitchen creating new dishes, but sometimes I am a bit pressed for time. We all have those days, when you get home late after a long day at work. It is those moments when you forgot about inviting your friends for dinner and the doorbell rings to your surprise. We usually will start calling for a take-out delivery around this time, but trust me, it is not necessary. By the time you order and wait for your food to get to the door, a lot of time would have passed. These moments call for meals that can be created in a flash right at home and still taste amazing.
There are some steps you can take on days when you are not pressed for time, which will help you in moments like these. What I like to do is boil a few ingredients that take up a lot of time. These may include beans and yellow lentils. They taste just as delicious defrosted and can make for a quick and tasty meal in two ticks. Stir-fries are great to get some veggies into your meals and are an absolute go to option. What I like about stir-fries is that you can use any vegetables and proteins you have at home. There are no specific vegetables you need to use in your recipes, so you are able to use what you like or what you have. You simply cook your noodles or rice as prescribed and start stir frying your vegetables and proteins. If you are going to use any meat, it’s best to do it first. You can create a simple honey and soy sauce or a peanut sauce, depending on your taste buds at the time. Combine all your elements and you’re done.
The great thing about seafood is that it calls for a quick cooking time. Calamari, prawns, salmon and mussels are all relatively quick to prepare and tastes naturally good. The flavors are incredible and do not need much work. You can be in and out of your kitchen with a tasty meal in no time. All you need is your basic seafood seasonings, some garlic and shallots. Of course, you can get a bit more adventurous depending on what you already have in your kitchen. A tasty lemon butter sauce has never hurt anyone.
